Brain-Based Computer Science Pedagogy Limits Screen Time to Maximize Learning in Grades K-8
How should computer science educators approach the significant body of brain-based research that argues for limited use of tablets and screens for young children? This session explores a blended approach to teaching engineering and computer programming in grades K-8 that employs a broad mix of hands-on work, physical/kinesthetic activities, small group discussion, peer mentorship and (yes) individual screen-based work. This approach was pioneered by Dr. Allen Selis, a former K-8 Headmaster from Palo Alto and the founder of STEM Crafters.
