WeTeach_CS Summit 2019

Attendees will understand the components of a PreK-12 CS continuum that includes coordinated, aligned programming and an emphasis on teacher training.

Blended learning combines technology-driven, online learning with teacher led instruction to maximize a personalized learning experience for students. Blended learning involves rethinking class structure, use of time, and allocation of resources. The goal of blended learning is to increase student learning and achievement by using the best instructional strategies, and fostering a personalized, highly productive learning environment of engaged students. In this session, participants will engage in a blended learning simulation, become familiar with tools and strategies indicative of a blended learning environment, and discuss with colleagues, enabling teachers to develop systems for creating their own blended learning classroom.

In today’s diverse classrooms, educators must embrace the cultural identities of the students they teach. In this interactive discussion, we will open a useful dialogue that seeks to inform culturally responsive teaching practices in Computer Science classrooms. Let’s discuss the best way to impact ALL students!

We’ve read the research, we’ve heard about the missing figures, but what do we really know about the current landscape for women in computer science and computer science education? Representing the full continuum of CS from high school to career, panelists will share about the spark that led them to pursue CS and outline real actions that CS advocates and educators can take to ensure that more women have the opportunity to make waves in CS and computing. 

Hands on robots! Participants will program robots in c programing language. See how easy it is to meet district standards and implement in a classroom or after school environment. No experience needed.
