Ryan Torbey is a computer science education advocate and former technology teacher. He is employed at the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) as a Project Specialist as he pursues his PhD in STEM Education at the University of Texas. His research focuses on the proliferation of K-12 computer science education in the United States. He has deep experience helping teachers, schools, and districts deliver extraordinary computer science education.
Ryan currently works on two large-scale, NSF-funded projects for TACC. Accelerating Women's Success and Mastery in Computer Science is a CSforALL Research Practitioner Partnership aimed at addressing the gap between female and male participation in computer science classes in grades 6 through 12. Additionally, Ryan works on the Expanding Computing Education Pathways (ECEP) Alliance, which seeks to increase the number and diversity of students in the pipeline to computing and computing-intensive degrees by supporting state-level computing education reforms.
